This is a creatively designed, single storey dwelling in form, with a shallow pitched roof. It has most of its glazing in the southern and western elevations. It is built using the principles of sustainability as required to be part of the Whiteway Coloney in the Cotswolds
A luxurious waterfront house with recent new cladding. About 7,000sq.ft. of pristine very high quality accommodation, with huge glass fronted deck; giving elevated views over the creek and Fal Estuary. A very energy efficient build.
The Shipwrights Arms at Helford has recently completed the construction of 4 contemporary creek side bedrooms, which is a substantial upgrade to the Grade II Listed public house. With wonderful views and nearby walks it would be well worth a visit!
A quality, thermally efficient dwelling, with air source heat pumps and PV panels used to provide electricity, along with other carefully considered sustainable martials. This structure was built from masonry and a partial steel frame to create an attractive cathedral like internal space.
This build was geared towards Passivhaus level, and includes exemplary levels of insulation and incorporates techniques for generating, conserving and storing its own energy which is generated on site. Logix Insulated Concrete Forms were also used for this ultra-energy efficient home.
The philosophy was conservation of fuel and power and the generation of energy from renewable sources for this woodland home. Built as a simple timber frame dwelling using Epiphytic Bromeliads (air plants) on the roof, the hope is for a return in investment within 10 years!

Daren has been involved within the construction industry for over 40 years, working on a wide range of projects as a setting out engineer, structural technician and as an Architectural Technologist. He has been a Regional Monitoring Surveyor for a Structural Warranty provider for over 10 years and recently achieved the recognition of a Certified Passive House Designer, one of only 4 within the county of Cornwall!
With a keen interest in sustainability and energy efficient construction, Daren is fully trained in the use of the Passivhaus design software and prides himself in using environmentally friendly and sustainable materials and construction methods where possible. A-Tec Design support the idea that all new and refurbished buildings, whether big or small, should minimise the amount of energy in use while providing high aesthetic value for the end users.
Our Charitable Work
Daren's other love is nature and wildlife, and with a love of birds and mammals is enormously proud of A-Tec Design's working relationship with various charities over the years, including St Francis Home for Animals in Newquay and The Barn Owl Trust at Ashburton Having provided advise and plans for the rebuild of their office Daren was then asked to cut the ribbon at the opening of the new build!

Finally, Daren has also assisted Prickles & Paws Hedgehog Rescue Centre and was happy to aid with the planning application and building regulations drawings for the design of the site and the related works for the new 'Hogspital'. Furthermore, Daren is hugely honoured to have recently been asked to become a member of the team as a Trustee in relation to the construction works.
